Family photo sessions are always more fun when Grandma and Grandpa come along! Hawaii seems to be a perfect meeting point for a lot of families so I have the pleasure of shooting multi-generation families quite often. It is so nice to have extra adults around to help out with the littles, we get sweet moments with loving grandparents, time for no stress photos with mom and dad and my favorite, adorable portraits of the elder generation. Waimanalo is a beautiful backdrop as always, for another fun family portrait on a beach in Hawaii.
I have had the pleasure of photographing this family three times now! I love witnessing families grow and change as they keep returning for family photos with me through the years! This time the family of four brought along friends that are like family. We did some group photos but mostly spent the morning running around playing with the kids. It was a gorgeous morning with a really awesome ohana!
I have been photographing this family since I started my journey as a professional portrait photographer in Hawaii long, long ago. I have had the honor of shooting their engagement photos, I was their wedding photographer, I did all three maternity sessions, captured photos of their firstborn at the hospital, had the unbelievable experience of photographing the birth of their youngest, not to mention countless baby photos and family portraits. It has been amazing to watch their family grow through the years! So since they are pretty much professional family photo takers at this point we were able to blast through this family photo session super duper fast. They had been scheduled for a shoot with one of my Sweet Ohana photographers but due to a freak fire the highway was shut down. That’s why being part of a team of photographers is so fantastic. I was able to grab my gear and scurry down the road last minute for the photo session. I hope you love this round of family photos friends! See you next time!
Sometimes I have a family photo session where everything feels crazy and disorganized and all over the place. I worry that I didn’t get enough, or didn’t get the right shots. Usually there is a 2 or 3 year old involved! When posed portraits are no use and instead there are puppets and word games, when that’s no use it’s 1, 2, 3 swing and endless games of peek-a-boo and hide and seek. When I spend a whole family session playing chase and crawling in the sand and do anything for the perfect smile. Because when it’s tough, I will do anything and everything for it. Then I go home and immediately load the photos onto my computer to check, anxious and worried… and I see that through all the chaos magic happened. Unique and amazing moments shine through and I start to wish that every family portrait was just as crazy and all over the place. That is what I got for my very first family photo session of 2018… magic.
